We need to acknowledge that all our symptoms and all our behaviours were communications. They are us trying to tell our true story, trying to speak when we had been forbidden ever to tell. They were our dissociative unconscious desperately forcing itself into consciousness. They weren't a sign of our addictive madness – they were a sign of our sanity, because our minds wanted to recover.
