Through repeated trauma, if the defences of numbing and dissociation have repeatedly been used, the authentic self The Child Within, the Core, the identity may become out of reach and its existence even forgotten. But as long as the body lives, the Core Child Within is alive, although parts may be cut off from the Child Within, or may have been led to believe the Child has died. The Child Within is the age of the body and usually goes by the birth name or nickname, although that is not always true.It took us a long while to accept the existence of a Child Within. We could not feel our child, see her, or hear the child within. Some of us were convinced they we had witnessed the Child within dying. Be aware, this is never true – the Child Within CANNOT die, if the body does not die. Romance is often used as a method of powerful dissociation and often has similar results as drugs or drink. Shaking hands is OK. Hugging is not. Many of us have been abused. So we need to understand that we run under the conditions of TRUTH, TRUST and CONSENT.<br /><br />The Stages is intent on restoring dignity and respect to sufferers from emotional distress. We are adult human beings, with full human rights, except they are currently operating on infantile survival strategies. We need restoration to re-invent ourselves together – we’ve done what we can, and now need support with the remainder. In other words, it is essential to enlist our own determination to deal with childhood from the inside. This is a course of adult emotional education in a playground. There is no danger that we do not wish to rid ourselves of our painful symptoms of ruined relationships and near fatal addictions – we just need support and guidance as to how to do this. Truth, Trust and Consent are essential ingredients, since the co-operation and determination of us is crucial to any re-evaluation of the ‘frozen Childhood Emotions’. </span><br /> <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace; font-size: large;">Bringing our emotional survival strategies up to date, and our symptoms lessen and finally after redundancy evaporate. Our key is to appreciate and convey that every emotional resource is being used by our child within to prevent our dreaded truth coming out into the daylight of an adult world – the process of denial is heaviest in the best endowed mental survivalists. We are deluding ourselves as to the real true root of the pain and numbness. We have the knowledge that any and all infantile damage is well and truly over – but deep within ourselves the reasoning fails to permeate. Growth means an increase in consciousness and self-awareness, an increase in manifesting and refining our individual gifts.<br /><br />So how do we achieve growth for real? We can’t get up in the morning and force growth to happen, but we can invite growth into our lives by providing the conditions for growth to occur.<br /><br />This invitation is analogous to cultivating a seed in a womb. As part of nature, we must be a viable seed, we must have enough life-force to grow, and we must plant ourselves in a growth inducing environment.<br /><br />First, the seed of the true self, our child within is viable within all of us—that’s the good news. The bad news for some is that this seed is buried so deep due trauma experienced during childhood and later years that growth seems impossible, if even considered a choice.<br /><br />Second, we have to want to grow. The gift of motivation is part of our temperament enhanced by the strength of our life-force. With a bold temperament and hardy personal-force, we will be motivated to do whatever it takes to grow.<br /><br />Third, we must plant ourselves in an environment that offers us opportunities to grow. We must be willing to move away from family and friends that would stunt our growth and thwart the manifestation of our gifts. We must dare to enter a wilderness, far from the comforts of convention and find a place that values authenticity and our unique gifts.<br /><br />Remember, as part of nature, we can’t help but grow. Nature’s intent is to evolve and we humans, as nature’s crowning jewel, are programmed to do just that—grow!</span><br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The Ten Stages is a studied recovery course.
