Childhood trauma tends to seer particular behaviour into place, in our emotional frozenness, we recreate a childhood memory that has caused us pain, we get repeatedly “stuck” in the same emotional spot. We have a compulsion to repeat the same behaviour that originally caused us pain and left us feeling helpless, enraged, or numb. Because our feelings may be frozen or split off from our consciousness, they cannot tell us what’s driving our behaviour, that is, we cannot feel our way to understanding what we are doing. Our repetitive behaviour, in other words, is largely unconscious.
The childhood trauma that we repeat and repeat and repeat sends up a red flag as to where our unresolved pain might lie. reconnecting with the ten stages understanding what complexes and conflicts might be driving the constant recreation of particular relationships, helps us to understand ourselves and free ourselves of their emotional traction and power.
The Ten Stages is a studied recovery course. It is a source of reconnection a method of unlearning and a reintroduction to our child within which leads us back to our one true intuitive voice. We start to learn and come out of our protective dysfunctional shell and reclaim our lives.
